Recap of last week’s Avondale Social

Last week we had our second Avondale Social- we collaborated with Voice of the City and attended their Thursday Open Mic Night at the new Arts Center- Logan Square/Avondale.

For those of you who haven’t yet been to the space, it is a beautiful new asset to the neighborhood.  The corner building has windows along both sides which creates a lovely backdrop for the artists.  With a little wine to get things going, we had good crowd of new and familiar faces to socialize before the performances.

The true highlight of the night was the performers.  Dawn Marie, Voice of the City’s Executive Director, started off the night with a beautiful cabaret style performance with her talented piano player, Peter.  There were about 5 other performers that covered a range of musical styles and original song writing, it was great to see such talent in the neighborhood!

Voice of the City’s Open Mic is every Thurs. evening but they also run various other art programs out of the space, including many for kids.  Please check out Voice of the City’s website for more information on their great programs & events.
